Brompton
Brompton, also known as Old Brompton, is still recognized in name as a ward situated in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London. Back in the 19th century, it was primarily a scattered village dominated by market gardens within Middlesex County. Positioned southeast of Kensington village, it bordered the parish of St Margaret's, Westminster at Knightsbridge to the northeast, and Little Chelsea to the south. Crossed by the Fulham Turnpike, the main route leading west out of London towards the historic parish of Fulham, Putney, and Surrey. Despite the introduction of its initial parish church, Holy Trinity Brompton, in 1829, the village's identity has been overshadowed over time due to railway expansions. The significant development of London Underground lines led to the introduction of station names like Knightsbridge, South Kensington, and Gloucester Road, erasing much of Brompton's historical significance and distinctiveness from nearby areas. Today, Brompton's rich past as a picturesque village has given way to modern urban structures influenced by railway networks.
