Taunton, a charming market town in Somerset, England, serves as the county town and offers a rich history and picturesque surroundings for visitors. Home to a minster church and a population of 64,621 as of 2011, Taunton boasts a fascinating past that dates back a millennium. Originally a 10th-century monastic foundation under the ownership of the Bishops of Winchester, it underwent transformation by the Normans in the 12th century, becoming Taunton Castle.
